ALTPs: Ultra-fast heat flux sensors

Atomic Layer Thermopile (ALTP) heat-flux sensors stand out by its unique characteristics with regard to its temporal resolution. They have a linear characteristic over approximately 10 orders of magnitude and cover a frequency range up to 2 MHz.

The sensors were used in several applications and flow environments in the past:

  • Internal combustion engines
  • Shock tube investigations and ignition studies of fuels / propellants
  • Wind tunnel dignostics  (subsonic  to hypersonic flow regime, plasma)
  • Boundary layer transition studies
  • Rotating Detonation Engines
  • Surface temperature determination e.g. steel industry
  • Heat transfer studies e.g. for gas turbine cooling

The experimental results were published in several internatinal peer-reviewed journals.
